6th   FEBRUARY 2011
FIFTH ORDINARY SUNDAY

What impression of the Church do we give to those outside its life?  The common life of the apostolic-period Church was so attractive that others were drawn irresistibly towards it.  It can be so today if our witness has real integrity and if the Christian community as a whole can become more oriented towards unity instead of fragmentation.

‘Seek integrity, seek humility’, says the prophet Zephaniah.  Jesus offers similar instruction in today’s Gospel.  In an age in which individual personality and ‘image’ seem all-important, this teaching is truly counter-cultural and challenges us at a fundamental level.
