Today is sometimes called ‘Bible Day’, and we must always remember how indispensable the Word of God is for us.  The Gospel today introduces us to the ministry of John the Baptist, who calls us to ‘Repent, for the Kingdom of God is close at hand’.

BISHOP JOHN of Burnley celebrates 10 years as a bishop on Tuesday this week, and we are offering the Monday evening Mass in thanksgiving for his ministry and to ask that his ministry may continue to be fruitful.
THANK YOU to Ann Bond and every member of the choir, as well as the readers, for last week’s lovely Advent Service.  Those who missed it missed a real treat.
*WALSINGHAM CELL meets here on Wednesday here, with Mass for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception at 7.30pm.  All welcome.  Refreshments to follow.  All welcome.
FOR ADVENT: Thursdays, following the 7.15pm Mass, we shall have an hour’s silent Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, concluding with Night Prayer.  Please come and go as you like.  This is an attempt to provide some much needed quietness at what can be a noisy and distracted time of the year.
CHRISTMAS COFFEE MORNING in church on Saturday from 11 am – 2pm.  Tickets (£2.00) are available today, as are the inevitable raffle tickets, the sale of which is really important to the total money that will be raised.  Please be ready to support this, and prepared to come into church the evening before (6 -7pm) to set up.  There will be various stalls, and new ideas are welcome.  Do come and bring others.
ADULTS’ CONFIRMATION SESSION next Sunday at 4.00pm.
‘BUY A STAR’ Stars available from Gill Mawson.  Why not do this instead of sending cards to people you’ll see anyway?  This way, we get a nice display and the church gets some extra funds.  And please remember to use a GIFT AID envelope and mark it ‘Buy a Star’.
ALTAR SERVING Are there more any adults who would like to help us with serving at the altar? Two people have already expressed interest, and we could do with a couple more, so don’t be shy.  Please see Fr Stephen if you could help us.
MISSION STATEMENT The PCC wishes to convene a group of people to work on a new Mission Statement for the parish.  One person has indicated a willingness to help so far.  Please let Fr Stephen know if you would like to serve on this.  Thank you.

As we begin a new Christian Year today, Jesus calls us to ‘stay awake’.  Let us resolve to observe this special (but easily overshadowed) Advent season faithfully, because it is a time given to us for preparation and renewal.

A special welcome to Oliver Michael William Prestwood and his family and friends.  Oliver becomes with us a member of the Universal Church of Christ through the sacrament of holy baptism.
