FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT (Year B)

We begin a new Christian Year today, and Jesus calls us to ‘be on your guard, stay awake’.  The Advent season is a time for preparation and renewal.  Let us strive to observe it as such, maintaining a truly Christian orientation (as act of witness) amidst all the cultural distraction.

THE SOCIETY OF ST WILFRID & ST HILDA (‘The Society’) is to be inaugurated in the dioceses of Blackburn and Carlisle with a Sung Mass in Preston Minster at 7.30pm on Thursday 1st December, with the bishops of Blackburn and Burnley.  It’s hoped that a really good number of us can go (over 70 people from here have joined ‘The Society’), with a parish banner.  There will be no evening Mass here that day (9.15am instead).  There is a list at the back of church – please put your name on it if you’d like to go.
TWO PLEAS: 1. Please can we sit closer together in church at ten on Sundays.  It’s easy to see why those with small children would choose to sit in the side aisles, but please would everyone else could come into the middle rather than sit at the side or the very back. This would make our liturgical celebrations much more cohesive. 2. Noise levels are rising before worship at ten.  Large groups of visitors can be noisy, but it’s up to us all to create the right atmosphere for worship, and avoid conversation that can wait until afterwards.
FORWARD!plus  The latest issue of Forward in Faith’s quarterly paper is available today – please take a copy.
READERS Please collect your readings from the sacristy.  Thank you.
