THIRTIETH ORDINARY SUNDAY

Christ can renew our vision.  Do I seek Christ?  Where do I look?
Do I make time to seek him as I should?
Do I act as if he were a mere figure from the past?

SAINTS OF THE WEEK
(SS Simon & Jude, Wednesday)
The name of Simon is placed eleventh in the list of apostles and nothing
is known of him except that he was born at Cana and was known as the Zealot.
Jude, also called Thaddaeus, was the apostle who, at the Last Supper,
asked the Lord why he showed himself only to his disciples and not to the world (John 14:22).

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Notions such as self-esteem, self-promotion and self-cultivation
are often encountered today as the means by which a person advances in the world.
So the Gospel call to self-effacement,
humility and servanthood is truly counter-cultural.
How do we give expression to the ethos of the Gospel in our daily lives,
especially when this ethos brings us into conflict
with what the culture expects and seems to value?
